BSO Announces 2022 Youth Concerto Competition Winner, Elson Koh, violin

Violinist Elson Koh, (pictured below) has won the 2022 Bloomington Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerto Competition and will be joining the BSO in October 2022 as a soloist, featuring Sibelius’s Violin Concerto.

Zhe (Elson) Koh started violin studies at 6. He studied with Northwestern University Professor Stacia Spencer and currently studies with Indiana University Professor Mimi Zweig. He placed first in 2015 Confucius Music Festival and 2016 SAM Competition. In 2017, he received Honorable Mention with Distinction in DePaul Concerto Festival. In 2019, he placed first in the New World Youth Symphony Concerto Competition, debuting the third movement of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with them. Elson is a member of Indiana University Violin Virtuosi; the group performs around the world and recently performed in the New Mexico ASTA 2019 Convention and the Telluride Music Festival. Over the years, Elson has had masterclasses /classes with prominent musicians such as Pamela Frank, Noah Bendix-Balgley, Vadim Gluzman, Aaron Berofsky, Kerson Leong, and Richard Lin. Elson is currently a junior in Stanford Online High School, enjoying math and science, and loves spending time with his dog.
