Beethoven Birthday Bash Update

Dear Bloomington Symphony Orchestra patrons and supporters:

As you may have heard, health authorities are discouraging large gatherings at the present time in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19.  As a result, the Buskirk-Chumley Theater will be closed for several weeks. Unfortunately, this means that our Beethoven Birthday Bash concert, originally scheduled for March 27, has been postponed.

Obviously, this is a disappointment. Our musicians have been working hard for weeks to prepare; our founder, Geoffrey Simon, had to postpone his trip to Bloomington to conduct us; and of course, we were all looking forward to sharing this beautiful music with you.

We are working with the Buskirk-Chumley staff to determine a new date for the program, and we’ll announce that as soon as we can. The good news is that we will reschedule, Geoffrey will come back to conduct, and we will all get to share our love of Beethoven’s genius.

If you had purchased a ticket to the concert (or hold a season ticket), you have several options:

  1. You can keep your ticket and we will honor it at the rescheduled concert date, when it is known.
  2. The Buskirk-Chumley Theater can issue a refund of your purchase.
  3. You may choose to donate the cost of your ticket to the BSO to help defray some of the costs we have already incurred in preparing for this concert.

The economic impact of these events will be felt for a long time by community arts organizations. If you would like to help us mitigate the losses we may incur as a result of the virus, please consider a tax-deductible donation to the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra at this time.

Whatever you choose to do, please know that we are so grateful, always, for your support of our community orchestra. Fifty years of continuous operation would not be possible without you, and, as we celebrate our birthday in these unprecedented times, we are more indebted than ever to our patrons and supporters.

Thank you and best wishes for continued good health,

The musicians, board, and staff of the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra
