It must be sung together. – Gerald Stanley Lee\, Crowds: A Moving-Picture of Democracy\, 1913 \nOn Sunday\, November 1\, the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra will perform a concert in recognition of our country’s 250th year. From the familiar square dance feel of Aaron Copland’s Hoedown to the soulful\, bluesy tonalities of William Grant Still’s Afro-American Symphony\, this concert explores what it means to be an American. \nProgram:\n“Hoedown” from Rodeo – Aaron Copland\n“In Memoriam Sojourner Truth” – Gary Powell Nash\nAll Things Majestic – Jennifer Higdon\nSymphony No. 1 – Afro-American Symphony – William Grant Still \nI travel the world\, and I’m happy to say that America is still the great melting pot – maybe a chunky stew rather than a melting pot at this point\, but you know what I mean. – Philip Glass\, 1999 NPR interview \n\n\n\n\n\nBSO Season Passes can be purchased through October 16th.
