MasterpieceIntensity and Passion

The Bloomington Symphony Orchestra finishes its 48th season with some seriously gorgeous music.

Michael Schacter’s Five – Six – Seven – Eight
Explore the whole world in just eight minutes! This clever, toe-tapping piece quotes every musical style from Baroque through Klezmer and New Orleans’ Jazz.

Richard Strauss’s Serenade for Winds
Uplifting, charming, youthful, and vivacious – this woodwind feature is sure to leave a smile on your face.

Paul Dukas’s Fanfare to La Peri
A regal fanfare that creates an air of excitement and anticipation, this short piece shines a spotlight on our brass section.

Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor (3rd Movement)
Features the grand prize winner of our 2018 Youth Concerto Competition, Phillip Hammond as soloist on what is arguably the most popular violin concerto ever written.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 – Pathétique
“I have put my whole soul into this work…It is the best thing I ever composed or shall compose.” Tchaikovsky’s final symphony is truly a masterpiece, full of grand hopes and deepest despair. It changed symphonic music forever. What will its impact be on you?

This concert made possible by the generous support of our corporate sponsor, Hilliard Lyons
